How does E-cloth clean with just water?
Unlike conventional cleaning – where an emulsifying solution is applied to dirt or grease and then absorbed by a paper towel or rag – E-cloth’s cleaning effectiveness comes from its microscopic fibers split to create millions of tiny “cleaning edges” that work to penetrate under dirt, grime, oils, grease and bacteria. What makes E-cloth better than other microfiber cloths?
"Microfiber" is a general term used to describe a broad variety of materials fabricated using ultra-fine fibers. The problem is the inequality that exists. The term microfiber is not regulated, so great products share the same designation with poor ones. There is a disparity in quality from one to another. Understandably, inexpensive microfibers don’t clean as well, or aren’t as durable as premium microfiber. The overall performance of many microfibers can be disappointing. E-cloth’s advanced fiber technology and superior raw materials take microfiber to its highest level of cleaning effectiveness. Click here to find out more.

Do E-cloths help to eliminate bacteria?
The special E-cloth fibers break down and lock in dirt, grease and bacteria. Independent tests have shown that even without the use of detergents, E-cloths are highly effective at removing bacteria, including E coli, from domestic surfaces. Tests have shown that, unlike ordinary cleaning cloths, E-cloths do not support the growth of bacteria. Because the cloths do not leave any residue on the cleaned surfaces, there is nothing left behind to encourage the development of bacteria.

How long will E-cloths last?
As long as the care instructions are followed, with normal use E-cloths will last for years (up to 300 washes). There may be some loss of color, but this will not affect fiber performance. Snagging fibers on sharp edges will inevitably occur.

Why have we developed various types of E-cloths?
Each of the cloths in our range has been developed to provide optimum performance for its designated use. Here are three examples:
  1. While the General Purpose Cloth will clean baths and showers well, the extra absorbency and surface area of the Sponge Cloth cleans them quicker and easier.
  2.  Used dry, the General Purpose Cloth attracts dust, but our Dusting Cloth is even more efficient, holding more dust and releasing gathered dust more effectively.
  3.  The Glass & Polishing Cloth cleans lenses and screens for smear-free clarity, but our special Screen and Lens cleaning cloths are a smoother weave, so there is less risk of small particles being held in the cloth, which might damage the delicate optical coatings.
What is this coating on my new stainless steel appliance and how do I get rid of it?
Stainless steel on some new appliances is covered in a protective oil coating or a plastic protective coating, held on by glue. In order to prevent streaking when cleaning, it is necessary to first thoroughly clean off this layer. Use the General Purpose Cloth, wiping from side to side cleaning a small area at a time. Refold and repeat until the surface is clean. Rinse the cloth with warm water from time to time to ensure it remains clean. Finally, remove any remaining moisture or streaks with the Glass & Polishing Cloth. Continue regular cleaning with the Stainless Steel Pack or Kitchen Pack.

Why do many manufacturers recommend E-cloth for cleaning their appliances and household surfaces?
Many manufacturers recommend that chemicals are not to be used on their products. They have tested E-cloth and found it particularly effective.

What can I clean with E-cloth?
With just water, E-cloth is proven to be an effective cleaning option for most hard surfaces in the home, workplace, patio, car, truck, motorcycle, RV or boat. Use E-cloth’s to thoroughly clean stainless steel, countertops, glass, ceramic, chrome, granite, marble, slate, quartz, tile and wood. They will also produce good results on materials such as fabrics, carpets and soft furnishings – even on wine spills, but always use cold water first and experiment on a test area.

Which E-cloth should I use?
We have developed a range of clothes specially designed to tackle practically every cleaning task. Click here to view a wide complete product listing.

Most hard surfaces in your home and workplace can be cleaned effectively using the General Purpose Cloth, the Glass & Polishing Cloth and the Mop. (Not for use on electronic screens and delicate lenses.)

We produce the General Purpose Cloth in assorted colors to help you reserve a different color for cleaning in different areas, or at various times.
Can I use any E-cloth on TV screens and other personal electronics?
Some screen and lens manufacturers advise cleaning with a microfiber cloth. The only cloths we recommend in the E-cloth product line are those designed for these special surfaces:
Are there areas that need other cleaning products?
You may need help from other products for particular cleaning tasks such as burnt-on spills and grease on ranges and stovetops or build-ups of calcium deposits from water. In these cases, it may be necessary to supplement E-cloths with other products. It will then be easy to maintain the surface using just E-cloths and water.

Do I need to disinfect?
Some people prefer to use chemical products and disinfectants around toilets and food preparation areas.

Can I use other cleaning products with my E-cloth?
E-cloths can be used with other cleaning products, but because they clean so well with just water, it is not normally necessary.

The fibers in E-cloth may become clogged by other cleaning agents, reducing their effectiveness.  If using cleaners, after use rinse the cloth out thoroughly under hot water.  To obtain a more thorough cleaning, machine wash

Contact with bleach should be avoided as it breaks down the fibers.

If there is a build-up of burnt-on food in the kitchen, or lime scale in the bathroom, a cleaning product can be used to remove it. Once removed, use E-cloths to maintain the surface with just water.

Contact with bleach should be avoided as it breaks down the fibers.

Can E-cloths scratch surfaces?
E-cloth fibers are non-abrasive and will not scratch surfaces, but remember – grit or a hard piece of debris caught in the fibers may scratch the surface, so always start with a clean or rinsed-out cloth.

What if there is a streak or smear left after the initial clean or wipe?
This is probably because there is a surface layer left on a new product by the factory or a chemical has previously been used for cleaning. In either case, clean a small area using the General Purpose cloth followed by the Glass & Polishing cloth. Repeat as needed and you will see the whole surface gradually come clean. Using warm water may help.

What should I do if my E-cloth doesn't work anymore?
If your E-cloth does not work anymore, it could be that there is fabric softener blocking the fibers. Please re-wash and try again. If this does not work, the E-cloth has reached the end of its life (usually over 300 washes).

How do I wash my E-cloths?
For most day-to-day use a warm rinse under a faucet is enough to ready it for the next cleaning task. As cloths/mop heads become soiled, machine wash in warm to hot water* with minimal detergent.
*Click here to go to the How To Use section for information on washing temperatures.

How often should I wash my E-cloth?
A warm rinse is often enough for day-to-day use. However, for E-cloths to perform correctly, they must be machine-washed regularly.

Can cleaning chemicals damage my E-cloth?
Although not recommended, you can use most cleaning chemicals with E-cloth.  Some chemicals will block the fibers and reduce performance.  Do not use bleach or chemicals containing bleach, as this will damage the fibers. Machine wash after use.

Why do I still have marks on my E-cloths after I have washed them?
Most types of dirt contain a pigment which stains any cloth. If the cloth has been washed properly, it will actually be clean. Repeated washes will gradually reduce these marks.

What makes E-Cloth a “green” product?
There are several ways E-cloth helps to conserve resources and reduce negative impact on the environment. E-cloth cleaning is done without using paper towels or household chemicals. That means NO landfill waste from paper towels or cleaning product containers, and no air or water pollution from chemical cleanerspaper.

How does E-cloth make for a “healthier home?”
E-cloth cleans using just water, eliminating the need for chemicals and their fumes or residues  that can cause allergies, chronic headaches, rashes and reactions like asthma. Studies have shown that poor indoor air quality (to which chemical cleaners contribute) is a significant cause of health problems.
