A few days ago I introduced my eco-world to Ecloths and told you how nice it was not to have to use chemicals to clean my kitchen.  Just take these fabulous Ecloths and add water, it’s that simple!

 

The Ecloth Furniture Pack is just as fabulous as the Kitchen Pack.  The furniture pack contains 2 cleaning cloths; a heavier brown cloth and a cream glass & polishing cloth.  The glass & polishing cloth is very similar to the one included in the kitchen pack.  The thick brown cloth is fluffier than the general purpose cloth.

 

Where did I use it?  I already mentioned that the glass & polishing cloth is quickly becoming my favorite Ecloth.  (I’ve) used it on windows, table tops, mirrors, and glass shelving.  The most surprising use is windows. When used damp on your windows and glass doors you don’t think it’s going to work and then it dries…and there are NO streaks!  It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever witnessed!  We have a giant sliding glass door in our living room that leads out to the pool area; with kids you can imagine how many times we are cleaning the fingerprints off that door.  I’ve tried countless green window cleaners (all of which I like) but I still have to use paper towels in order to wipe those cleaners off the glass and leave a streak-free finish. 

 

With the Ecloth glass cloth I’m done using those glass cleaners; now all I need is water! 

 

The brown cloth can be used either dry or damp.  If you use it dry is works really well for dusting (think Swiffer duster…only better).  Now if you know me I try not to dust very often so I don’t use it dry often.  But I have found it works really well on my leather furniture when used damp.  (Ok…go ahead and slam The Eco Chic for having leather furniture…I love it and it’s much easier to keep clean with the kids.)  I find myself using the brown Ecloth every few days to wipe down the sofa.  When I get the motivation I will try it on my blinds and a few other places that get cleaned on those ’special’ occasions.

Realize savings in household cleaning as well as in health with E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloths

Greenland, NH (September 2009) - E-cloth® Microfiber Cleaning Cloth - Many months ago, E-cloth asked me to test their microfiber cleaning cloths. These job-specific microfiber cloths require only water to clean every surface inside and outside the home, from delicate glassware to over-burdened outdoor grills. While some consumers still purport that green products "cost too much," or are "just a marketing gimmick," with the E-Cloth microfiber cleaning cloth, you don't need to buy anything at all. Besides, while some sustainable products might cost a little more at the checkout counter than conventional products, there are much bigger, and much longer-term savings that show up in the health of your family and the health of the planet.

What took me so long to give the microfiber cloths a test-run? At first, I was skeptical. How could a mist of water and a pack of microfiber towels get my house "clean enough"? I have two children and a pet, all of whom contribute to the battle against the cleanliness and freshness of my home. In my case, the motivating factor to use E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloths is guilt; I'm embarrassed to admit I still failed to quit my disposable paper towel habit, and with all of E-Cloth's microfiber cloth products within reach, I had no excuse.

Before we dive into the trials, here is are few reasons why paper towels no longer make sense for household cleaning:

The Microfiber Cloth Trials

I started my experiment with the microfiber bathroom cloth pack, consisting of a general purpose microfiber cloth for thick grime and dirt and a glass & polishing microfiber cloth for glass, light cleaning and final polishing. Amazingly, the microfiber cleaning cloth technology penetrated and removed dust, grime, oil, grease and even bacteria with ease. The two most surprising results were how easily the bathroom microfiber cleaning cloth wiped up shower scum, and the consequential gleaming shine of my bathroom fixtures.

For years, I only used common household cleaners for bathroom cleaning. The cleaning process involved me spraying, waiting for the product to sink in, and scrubbing away the mess. With the E-Cloth bathroom microfiber cloth, a light mist of water and an immediate sweep with the microfiber cleaning cloth lifted even the hardest shower and toilet scum without requiring much "elbow grease." With the microfiber cleaning cloth from E-cloth, the cleaning process was literally effortless. What was also nice about the microfiber bathroom cloth was that the surface being cleaned had no film or chemical residue typically left behind by household cleaners. My bathroom surfaces are now the cleanest and shiniest they have ever been after using the microfiber cleaning cloth.

The next trial involved E-cloth's window cleaning cloth. After the results I saw on the bathroom mirror, I was excited to try the microfiber cloth on my home's dirty glass windows. As to be expected, the microfiber window cloth was powerful at cleaning the glass with no need for a window cleaning solution. The results were a streak-free shine with no little microfiber cloth particles left behind. The window microfiber cleaning cloth served as the ideal glass polishing cloth.

Now it was time to take the microfiber cleaning cloth power around the house. My first target was the dusty television so I brought out the microfiber dusting cloth to take on the job. I was in awe at how well the microfiber cloth for dusting performed. Dust attracted to the cloth's microfibers like a magnet. In a matter of a few swipes around the box and television screen, my first cleaning target was checked off the list. I continued on to other electronic devices around the living room. The microfiber dusting cloth kit was also ideal for the desktop computer and our cumbersome bookshelf.

While on the microfiber cleaning cloth spree with the E-cloth microfiber dusting cloth, I pinpointed other electronics around the home that are infamous for attracting dust. My son's laptop computer was next on the list. His laptop is very expensive, not to mention the screen is highly sensitive, so I had to proceed with caution. With a little mist of water and an E-cloth microfiber cloth in hand, the results were a gentle clean with flawless results. And what was even more impressive was how this microfiber cloth was able to remove all of his greasy finger prints without any help of cleaning solvent. This is the perfect computer screen cleaning cloth, I thought to myself. Virtually any type of electronic device can be cleaned with these microfiber cleaning cloths.

It was at that moment when I thought about my husband's new touchscreen iPhone. He always complains about the screen becoming overly smudged from using it so often. Additionally, he always struggled to find a convenient electronics cleaning cloth to handle the job. This was the perfect task for E-cloth's microfiber cleaning cloth for personal electronics. This very handy and uniquely refined microfiber cloth came with the E-cloth CleanSafe spray. The spray is designed not only to help clean electronic screens, but also to ward off grime from future build-up. After two squirts of the spray and quick wipe with microfiber electronics cleaning cloth, my husband's iPhone looked like it just came out of the box.

I was intrigued by the E-cloth CleanSafe spray, so I looked into the product a little further. In addition to complementing the microfiber electronics cleaning cloth for PDAs and other electronic gadgets, the spray was also great for cleaning lenses and delicate eyewear. Similar to the complaints my husband would make about his iPhone, I experienced the same frustrations with my reading glasses. With the microfiber cleaning cloth and CleanSafe spray from E-cloth, I gave my eyewear a quick cleaning. The results were fabulous and the spray provided a protective layer on the lens surface. With E-cloth's microfiber lens cleaning cloth, especially with the help with the CleanSafe spray, my glasses remained free of dust and lint for over a week. Typically I have to clean my reading glasses every other day, but not with E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloth products. I said to myself, 'What don't E-cloth microfiber cloths clean?'

With anticipation to test out the E-cloth Microfiber Mop Kit, my next cleaning target was the hardwood flooring in the kitchen and mud room. The microfiber mop had a specially engineered microfiber mop head that looked like it utilized a durable microfiber cloth design. In addition, the microfiber mop kit offered options, similar to many other microfiber cloths that E-cloth had to offer. The microfiber mop kit included a dry mop and a wet mop head for varying cleaning applications. Because the kitchen floor needed only a simple "run-through" cleaning and did not require a wet-based clean, I elected to use the dry microfiber mop head. In addition to an easy assembly and seamless installation of the mop head, the microfiber cleaning performance of the mop kit was exceptional. The microfiber mop was very effective, and ergonomic, while cleaning the kitchen hardwood flooring. After I was finished using the microfiber cleaning mop, there was not a single dust particle left on the floor - not to mention the whole process took less than a few minutes to complete.

During the kitchen cleaning session, I realized the granite countertops and stainless steel stovetop were caked in grease. This is going to be tough cleaning task for these microfiber cleaning cloths, I thought. Those are the two most challenging surfaces to clean around the house, and they were in the worst shape I had seen in months. Fortunately the designers of E-cloth's microfiber cloths realized this common kitchen cleaning frustration and developed a microfiber cleaning cloth specifically for stainless steel and stovetop ranges. Without hesitation, I busted open the microfiber stainless steel cleaning cloth pack and put the microfiber cloth to the test. "With just water, there is no way that these microfiber cleaning cloths will be able to remove the cooked on grease from my stovetop," I said to myself.

Once again, the E-cloth microfiber cloth proved to work yet again. This was the best stainless steel cleaning product I have ever used. With only water, the week old grease that rested on the stovetop was wiped clean with minimal effort. As for the rest of the granite countertop cleaning, E-cloth microfiber cloths handled that job with ease.

Last but certainly not least on the list of E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloth trials was the E-Carcare Interior Car Cleaning Kit. I headed to the garage to my dirty and heavily dusted vehicle. It had been hibernating in the garage for almost three months, so a solid cleaning was definitely in the works. The microfiber car cleaning cloth worked like a charm on the dash and glass polishing cloth handled the car mirrors flawlessly. The microfiber car cleaning kit also came with a handy storage bag so taking the kit on the go is very convenient for traveling. My husband was so impressed when I was finished cleaning the car. He even recommended we try an E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloth for inside the boat and RV. The performance was just as great on both.

After a series of successful trials with the microfiber cleaning cloth products from E-cloth, I was convinced that this microfiber cloth is the ultimate cleaning companion. In addition, E-cloth microfiber cloths promote safe and healthy cleaning, giving me that extra peace of mind knowing that chemical residues are not being left behind.

E-cloth Microfiber Cloths Are Healthier For You

According to the National Research Council, no toxic information is available for more than 80% of the chemicals in everyday-use products. Household chemicals don't come under the jurisdiction of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), so in the United States, there are no legal requirements for listing ingredients on the labels of household cleaning products. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) only regulates pesticides, and the focus of Consumer Product Safety Commission is limited to acute poisoning hazards.

However, as mentioned in Clorox Green Works to Boost Company Image and Sales?, regular use of toxic cleansers chronically expose family members and pets to known, cancer-causing carcinogens. Research studies have shown that we spend over 85% of our time indoors. The EPA reports that indoor air quality is often times much more polluted than outdoor air. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 23 million people--including 6.8 million children--have asthma. Young children crawl on the floor, then put their hands in their mouth transferring chemical residue. While the human body is accustomed to most common home bacteria, our bodies are not equipped to fight cancer-causing toxins. Since household cleaners were the third largest category of substances associated with calls to poison control centers, the Soap & Detergent Association (SDA) recommends protecting children from cleaning chemical exposure by only cleaning when they are out of the house.

Why E-cloth Over Other Microfiber Cleaning Cloths

So what is preventing me from buying a pack of standard microfiber cleaning cloths at the store? Does using the E-cloth microfiber cloth make any difference? The answer is Yes. "Microfiber" is a general term used to describe a wide variety of materials fabricated using ultra-fine fibers. There is a large disparity in quality from one microfiber cloth to another. Understandably, inexpensive microfiber cleaning cloths do not clean as well, and are not as durable as the premium E-cloth microfiber cleaning cloth.

Very small fibers are best suited for cleaning because they possess far more "cleaning edges" to pick up dirt. Clearly, the more fiber strands per square inch, the more capability the microfiber cloth has to cut through, collect and absorb grease, dirt and liquids.

E-cloth's microfiber cleaning cloth fabrication creates microscopic texturing with each fiber being about 1/100th the width of a human hair. A standard E-cloth has 500 million strands per microfiber cloth. While a standard microfiber cloth for instance, does not provide that detailed of information. E-cloth microfiber cloths perform better than other microfiber cleaning cloths.
